Natural Dye Library

Natural Dye Reference Library

As a Graduate Research Assistant in the RISD Nature Lab, I proposed and spearheaded developing a free reference library of natural dye recipes and samples for use by RISD + Brown University students and faculty. This project is aimed at increasing awareness and interest in natural and local dye options. The entirety of the library is housed in the RISD Nature Lab, where each sample is accompanied by detailed instructions. This is a communal, living library that will continue to grow as students and faculty members experiment with additional dyes, processes, and materials.

I have been experimenting with introducing natural dyes into biomaterial processes, including during creation and doing processing.

As a part of the natural dye reference library, I am developing a standardized dyeing process that works with most floral waste.
